KwaZulu Natal is the home of the Zulu nation, which is the largest South African ethnic group. The Zulu were a major clan in what is today the north part of KwaZulu-Natal. This clan was founded in 1709 by Zulu kaNtombhela and Zulu means “heaven”, KwaZulu meaning the Land of Heaven. During the 1830s the north part was part of a Boer republic and was called Natalia, later becoming a the British Colony of Natal. Kwazulu-Natal is called the garden province because of its beautiful nature.
KwaZulu Natal has a great climate. The coast is subtropical and in the inlands it is slightly colder, the temperatures are between 28ºC and 21ºC. The weather can be compared to southern Florida in the United States.
